Electrolytes in your body

in , by The Red Beet, September 04, 2020

Electrolytes are essential substances in the body required for cell function and cell signaling. In the human body, the main electrolytes are: Sodium , Potassium , Calcium , Magnesium , Chloride , Hydrogen phosphate , Hydrogen carbonate.

These are present in all body cells and fluids and play a vital role in maintaining proper hydration and balance of water within and between body cells. Each electrolyte has certain specific functions. Electrolytes are chemicals that form electrically charged particles (ions) in body fluids. These ions carry the electrical energy necessary for many functions, including muscle contractions and transmission of nerve impulses. Many bodily functions depend on electrolytes.

Optimal performance requires a consistent and adequate supply of these important nutrients. Your body is a complex and carefully-balanced superhighway of cells, tissues, and fluids that, almost every second, directs an incomprehensible array of electrical impulses. This is only possible because those cells, tissues, and fluids thrive in a homeostatic environment where they conduct electricity well enough to carry the signals to their intended destinations.

There are several common electrolytes found in the body, each serving a specific and important role, but most are in some part responsible for maintaining the balance of fluids between the intracellular (inside the cell) and extracellular (outside the cell) environments.

This balance is critically important for things like hydration, nerve impulses, muscle function, and pH level. An electrolyte imbalance, whether too much or too little, can be quite detrimental to your health. Muscle contraction, for example, requires calcium, potassium and sodium; deficiency may result in muscle weakness or severe cramping.

One of the major roles of electrolytes is to ensure that fluid levels inside and outside the cell are balanced. The cell can adjust its fluid levels by changing the concentration of electrolytes.

"pH" stands for potential of Hydrogen. Human body is a synchronization of complex mechanisms

that altogether work and make it efficient. This is the reason that enables the body to feel energy and to do multiple tasks at any particular moment of time.

The pH level of a human body is one of the important most balancing systems upon which other balance systems rely on. The pH level measures the ability of alkalinity or acidity in a human body (on a scale of 0 - 14) where 0 is the most acid and 14 is most alkaline and 7 is the mid-range and is the critical pH balance of the human body.

The ideal pH value balance of body varies from person to person (depending upon several factors) which is ideally 7.35 to 7.45. And if any of the contrary values vary on the pH scale, then it leads to natural pH imbalance (acidic, alkaline) - a person may experience certain other symptoms and some times it may lead to some diseases but nevertheless, there are sundry natural ways to restore natural pH balance in body.

"Key electrolytes for the body include sodium (NA), potassium (K), calcium (CA), magnesium (MG), Phosphorus (P), and Chloride (CL).

One of the effective remedies to restore natural pH balance in your body is to introduce the Himalayan salt* in your diet. The Himalayan salt effectively balances the pH value of your body through its efficient alkaline effect.

It is very important to maintain a slight or neutral alkaline pH level in your body as it promotes the healthy functioning of the internal organs, and processes. Our body is found to be most acidic when we wake up early in the morning and diffusing the Himalayan salt (also known as sole solution) in to our diet can help us in kick starting our body from the morning.

It is crystal clean, pure and known as the 'king salt' - it comprises of 84 different nutritional elements which are very essential for our body functioning.

Upon sweating or perspiration during work or exercise, our electrolytes are lost and these electrolytes are very important for us as especially our heart, muscle and nerves use these to maintain electrical current across the cell membranes through which the electrical impulses are carried out to other cells.

An example is that muscle contraction is the result of potassium, calcium and sodium; any variation of these electrolyte levels may result in severe muscle cramps. The Himalayan salt helps replacing the electrolytes in our body which are lost, as mentioned earlier. This state is called as homeostasis (a condition where the chemicals in our body are balanced).

In addition, as compared to the ordinary sodium chloride, this salt has proven to balance the blood pressure as well. The other benefits of the salt are that it besides promoting a strong pH balance in your body reduces the aging process by regulating the blood sugar level.

Moreover it promotes the sinus and respiratory health, and also alleviates menstrual cramps, cures insomnia, strengthens the bones, enhances vascular health etc. So in addition to maintaining the pH balance in your body, one can gain misc. other benefits from this exceptional salt, and this fact has been backed up by various scientific studies such the double blind study (conducted at the Inter University, Graz, Austria) and has been endorsed by the Frezenius institute in Europe in their analysis.

Now a few words about real Salts:

"Table salt, stripped of minerals and bleached, is a freak of nature. Your body sees it that way, too.

Sea salts, unfortunately, are becoming more and more polluted as the oceans fill up with toxins. Real Salt, minded from ancient sea beds, is untainted by toxins and provides a rich source of 60+ trace minerals.

Himalayan salt is also mined from ancient sea beds, so it is pure from modern environmental toxins. It provides a whopping 84 trace minerals, plus a unique ionic energy that is released when the salt is mixed with water.

UPDATE: As it turns out, Real Salt, Celtic Salt, and Himalayan Salt share the same number and type of minerals. The “84 minerals” in himalayan salt is an unsupported claim. I had the opportunity to speak with a salt expert and I shared how unrefined salts compare, as well as concerns about contaminants in the salt.

Himalayan salt benefits include supporting weight loss, detox, and balanced hormones. You can even use it in your home improve air quality! I start and end my day with himalayan salt, with lots of salt in-between. Here’s how to use himalayan salt for (almost) all that ails you:

Himalayan Sole:

Since discovering sole, I start my day with a teaspoon of this powerfully detoxing and rejuvenating elixir.Because it requires only himalayan salt (or Real Salt), water, and a jar, this health treatment is accessible and affordable for everyone.

Sole is water fully saturated with unrefined salt. When himalayan salt dissolves in water, it results in a concentrated, electrically charged matrix of the 84 trace minerals in the salt. The ionic salt and trace minerals nourish each cell in your body.

The benefits of himalayan salt sole include:

Detoxifies the body by balancing systemic pH

Improves hydration by providing trace minerals

Improves mineral status of the body

Reduces muscle cramps by improving minerals and hydration

Helps balance blood sugar

Supports hormone balance for everyone, no matter what hormonal issues you face

Helps balance blood pressure because it provides unrefined, mineral-rich salt in an ionic solution

Improves sleep by supporting blood sugar and hormone balance

Acts as a powerful antihistamine

Supports weight loss by balancing hormones and improving energy

Supports thyroid and adrenal function

How to make Salt Sole:

Fill a glass jar about 1/4 of the way with himalayan salt (or Real Salt or celtic sea salt), either ground or in chunks. Fill the rest of the way with filtered water. Add a plastic lid (not metal!), shake and let sit overnight. You should always have some undissolved salt in the jar, this means the water is fully saturated. Add more salt if needed. Remember, there should always be undissolved salt crystals on the bottom of the jar. This is your visual proof that the water is totally saturated with salt.

In the morning, take 1 tsp. of sole, mixed into some room temperature water, upon waking. Never use metal utensils with your sole! Each morning, before eating or drinking anything, add one teaspoon of the Salt Sole to a glass of artesian or spring water and drink. Your body will receive the energetic vibration pattern of the Salt and hold it for 24 hours. Keep the container covered to prevent the water from evaporating. Otherwise, no special storage is needed.

Keep refilling your jar with salt and water when it runs low. It lasts indefinitely.

Why is it important to avoid using metal utensils or a metal lid? According to my friend Darryl, who works at Real Salt:

The reason for [not using metal lids/utensils with sole] is that salt when mixed with water can (and will) oxidize metals. It is the same reason that salt on the roads will rust your car. Dry salt can sit on dry metal without it causing a chemical reaction – however when you add water to the equation everything changes and the chemical and physical reactions start to take place.

When this happens it can release other metals and chemicals into the salt water as the metal lid (or metal spoon) starts to corrode. Even if they are stainless steel or other non-corrosive metals that won’t rust in theory, they can still react to the salt water.

Now that said, using a metal spoon to scoop water out a little water or to quickly stir the solution probably won’t be in contact with the salt water to start the reaction, so I would not worry too much about that few seconds. I do that myself without worry.

Leaving the metal spoon in the salt water, or using metal canning jar lid that is in contact with the salt water for longer periods really increases the potential of having oxidization and corrosion issues by drawing chemicals/metals/elements out of the metal and into the water." this article by the Himalayan salt I found at https://empoweredsustenance.com/himalayan-salt-benefits/.

*Himalayan salt - It is mined from the Khewra Salt Mine (Punjab Region, Pakistan), the second largest salt mine in the world.Himalayan salt often contains trace amounts of iron oxide (rust), which gives it a pink color. It does contain small amounts of calcium, iron, potassium and magnesium. It also contains slightly lower amounts of sodium than regular salt. What minerals are in Himalayan Rock Salt? Well, macrominerals and Trace Minerals. Himalayan salt contains the minerals that are necessary for your health, including macrominerals and trace minerals. The macrominerals are needed in relative abundance and include calcium, chloride, iron, magnesium, phosphorus, potassium and sodium.
